Ocean City is a popular beach destination during the summer season. It is the state's most visited beach; and with a popular boardwalk, Ocean City features a bustling beach by day; and a crowded boardwalk by night.
The boardwalk in Ocean City is lined with restaurants and souvenir shops, and the piers along the water offer fishing and trapshooting activities. Trimper's Rides and Amusements, Jolly Roger Park and other amusement park facilities feature rides, merry-go-rounds and entertainment for the younger set.
There is plenty of golf available in Ocean City, at any one of the courses throughout the region and visitors can choose from large full amenity hotels that line the shores, to smaller scale hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts. There are a number of restaurants to choose from--seafood being the specialty and the nightlife is happening at places like Mellow Beach and Fager's Island that feature live entertainment on weekends and draw a big crowd.
At nearby Assateague Island, a 33-mile barrier island, wild horses roam the land, and swimming, crabbing and shell collecting are popular summer pastimes. There are nature trails along the route to Ocean City for hiking and biking; and off-roading and camping are also available.
Ocean City is a barrier island located in the southeastern part of the state. Delaware's beaches are within an hour's drive north from Ocean City, and Virginia's shores are just south of the region.
