Baseball, the Civil War and a bustling historic harbor have all had a hand in shaping Maryland's big waterfront city, Baltimore, their legacy assorted cultural sights, atmospheric neighborhoods and crowded games at Camden Yards.
Bygone centuries beckon from the ground beneath, virtually on the doorstep for visitors to London Town and Gardens, a historic site that encompasses the partially excavated remains of a former settlement over two hundred years old. In addition to ongoing excavations by both professional and amateur archaeologists find the National Historic Landmark William Brown House (open to the public on guided tours), a peaceful wooland garden plot and the Richard Hill Garden, where a variety of medicinal plants and native species have been put to seed. Educational courses, seminars and adult programs are also offered through the site, so check the calendar for dates and details.
